How can I make sure only one referral credit is received and follow on orders from the referred friend do not result in repeat credit?
By default, the referral cookie is valid for 30 days (you can change this parameter to different time frame in your setup) and during this time, if user places more than one order then the referrer will get that many referral credits. If you do not want that to happen, then you should set value for the option "Do you want to clear the referral cookie after a conversion" on "Edit Terms" page of your campaign setup flow to "Yes".
Please note, changing this option changes your conversion tracking scripts so you will have to reinstall your conversion tracking script on your order confirmation page. With this option enabled user can still go back and click on the referral link to get a fresh set of cookies and then if he/she places a new order the referrer will get a new credit. If you do not want to see this behavior then you can use JavaScript approach suggested to make sure you give user credit on only first visit to a particular page and not on subsequent visits.
