What are some of the sponsored channels I should consider for promoting my campaigns?
For aggressive promotion, buy Google Adwords with discount keywords that have your product name appended with phrases like "Coupon", "Promotion", "Discount", "Free", "Giveaway", "Clearance" and route users to either a page that has your promotion offer highlighted or a separate landing page targeted at your promotion. You will notice, bidding for keywords with these phrases is substantially cheaper than normal ad buys and users running these search queries are very motivated to make purchases (and also saving money by participating in your promotions). Even for your new brand there are number of users who search for " coupon" - so make sure to both optimize your promotion pages for organic ranking and sponsored ads for keywords such as free offer, special offer, free shipping keywords coupled with either just your brand name or with your competitors’ names and attract new participants to your promotion.
If you already run a re-targeting campaign using services like “FetchBack” then you can promote your loyalty reward offers or even something like contests, referral discounts to users. Your re-targeting ad response rate will improve at least by a double digit factor if you have a promotional campaign offer rather than a simple banner ad for your product. You can even directly collaborate with publishers to open your promotional widget on publisher's site itself so users do not have to waste extra click or leave what they are doing to participate in promotion (note, with a re-targeting campaign users already know about your brand and so have little hesitancy in interacting with your promotion on a 3rd party publisher's site)
If you are just starting out, then buying a mailing list, especially from newspaper or magazine publication or even websites that target your niche audience is very effective in getting the social influencers engaged in your campaigns. All mailing list vendors will provide you ability to segment data and target your promotion to just the right demographic.
Next, take benefit of cheap social media ad inventory rates.
Most of the new social media sites have great reach but depressed
ad rates because often times, users while engaged in social
activities are not in mood for making purchases (Incidentally,
these users are very much interested in offers such as your
campaign) Even premier social network sites like Facebook have
generous coupon offers so you can even start your ads for free.
With all social networks (including Facebook) you can target your
ads with keywords that are associated with user's profile
information (demographic information) so you have great
opportunities to optimize and get high yield from these
promotions.
Finally, talk to your local bloggers or use ad networks such as
blogads, BlogHer, Glam Media etc to find great ad deals. Even with
a limited budget, you can have your promotions show up on blogs
that have very rabid following but without formal sales force very
competitive ad rates.
In the early phases of your campaigns if you spend some money (still comparatively little compared to your normal advertising buys) then you get a solid head start for your campaign.
